A Steak And Cheese Based Pick Me Up

Is it bad that the only thing keeping my head straight is thinking about a little bit of foodie filth from the weekend? I made a thoroughly awesome, if I do say so myself, steak and cheese sandwich with rosemary salted oven chips, grilled mushrooms and onions and a heavily buttered corn on the cob on the side.

Chinese Fakeaway

As part of my current attempt at healthier eating, I've completely cut out takeaway food and, as such, it's been over a year since the last time I ate a chinese takeaway. When it comes to chinese food I'm fairly predictable in regards to what I order, I nearly always have some form of chow mein, because I absolutely love noodles. This weekend my parents had a chinese takeaway and, because I was insanely close to caving in and ordering the house special noodles, I decided to join them by cooking my own. I made a chinese style roasted lean pork loin, marinated and cooked in a sauce made with onion, ginger, garlic, rice wine vinegar, dark soy sauce, oyster sauce, chinese five spice and honey (I actually used a low calorie fruit syrup, as a replacement, to cut the sugar content and the number of calories). I served this over a bed of egg noodles and stir fried vegetables, both of which I flavoured with some of the left over marinade.

Celebrating With Utter Filth

Celebrating the long weekend, and the fact that I'm not at work for the week, with something that can only be described as pure filth. I made an absolutely massive, and thoroughly dirty, steak and cheese sandwich with a side of seasoned oven chips. I regret nothing... ok I regret everything, but at least it made me smile while I was eating it.

Good Quality, High Welfare Meat... My Biggest Dietary Weakness

Even after years of practice I still suck at dieting, completely ignoring my fairly recent weight loss. In my defence I came across this absolutely beautiful looking treacle cured back bacon, it's dry cured, free range, outdoor bred, from an RSPCA assured farm, it was calling my name, I had to buy it, and it would have been just wrong not to go all out with it. So here we have griddled bacon, griddled mushrooms, fried eggs, homemade baked beans and a griddle toasted ciabatta.

When Only The Filthiest Of Grilled Cheeses will Do...

When only the filthiest of grilled cheeses will do...

Salt and pepper bloomer, buttered on the outside, filled with a mixture of vintage cheddar and gouda and pan grilled to melty middled, crispy crusted perfection.
